Yellow Thunder

Yellow Thunder was the fifth foal from one of our best crosses, that of  HOA foundation mare Little Star Sparkling and our East/West cross stallion Dancin' Hawk. We kept Thunder as a future stallion for our breeding program although his main job is as Doug's personal riding horse.  Yellow Thunder is the senior stallion at Crooked Fence Acres, Missouri location.

Visitors to our farm are always drawn to Thunder because of his striking color. The beautiful yellow dun coloring and flowing black mane and tail were passed down through his dam from his grandsire Tiger Eye. Yet although his appearance is striking, it's his disposition that makes him a great horse. Thunder also inherited the famous Tiger Eye temperament. He exudes a quiet confidence and is a joy to work with.

Yellow Thunder, and his mare Scamper, enjoy a treat from Tom.

Yellow Thunder has passed on this great temperament to his get. He throws refined foals with lots of color and has sired yellow duns, buckskins, dunalinos, paliminos, smoky blacks, bays and red duns.

Yellow Thunder is a wonderful riding horse and has represented the Horse of the Americas Registry at several events including the Iowa Rare Breeds Show and the Competitive Trail Ride event held in conjunction with the 2nd Annual HOA meeting.

Thunder's owner and rider Doug Norush is an accomplished horsemen, trainer, and farrier. Doug was featured in the popular magazine Western Horsemen for his training accomplishments. The March 1999 issue carried an article of Doug training a BLM mustang stallion for a man who was over 70 years old. He was again featured in June of 2000 for articles on Saddle Fitting and training a Morgan horse. Doug apprenticed and refined his training techniques by spending a summer and fall working at the famed Cayuse Ranch and learning the ropes from Emmet Brislawn.
