Dancin' Hawk Crooked Fence Acres foundation stallion
![]() Doug and Dancin' Hawk
We owned two Colonial Spanish geldings whom we rode frequently and thoroughly enjoyed. Our son Doug had developed an interest in our horses and we decided he should have one of his own. We drove to the famed Cayuse Ranch to let him pick out a foal for his 13th birthday. He chose a bright sorrel colt from Son of Sailor's herd. The colt was running alongside his dam, Etta Place, a gorgeous black Cochise daughter.

After the long drive home from Wyoming, the young, newly weaned colt was dancing about in his excitement to be out of the trailer. Our friend and fellow mustanger, the late Carol Stone, dubbed the colt Dancin' Hawk.

Hawk' matured into a wonderful horse. He had inherited the flaming red coat, rocking chair movement, and gentle disposition of his sire, SOS, a pure Banker stallion. His beauty, refinement, and balance were gift's from his dam. He had a sweet, trainable temperament and genuinely liked people. Hawk was everything we had wanted in a horse. We decided to leave him a stallion and to begin breeding Spanish Mustangs. Hawk produced many fine foals in a myriad of colors, including two stallions and a mare that we retained for our breeding program. He was trained to saddle and was an accomplished trail horse. He was Doug's personal riding horse until his death. Hawk's legacy continues to live on in our herd and that of other breeders throughout the Midwest. ![]() |
